Abstract

The objective of this research paper is to investigate the causes of low literacy rates in the less developed and backwards areas and its impacts on the socio-economic status of the people in these areas. For this purpose, a 30 items questionnaire was developed to collect primary data from 100 families through convenient sampling method. Our findings show that uneducated people have less chances of employment, skeptical about their future and are involved in honored killing. Government should open new schools, particularly for girls and generate employment to motivate people to send their children to schools. Media should also play its role to educate people about the importance of literacy.
