Abstract

The objective of this research paper is to examine the current situation of religious customs/practices in Muslim society vis-a-vis pre- Islamic practices of idolatry and polytheism. Before Islam, Arabs were indulged in all types of polytheism and had belief in different Gods. This act was declared shirk by Islam and prohibited the Muslim to have faith in self-made Gods. Islam renounced all types of shirk. The Muslim were directed to have faith only in one God (Allah). Unfortunately, now days, Muslims are again indulging in the same practices of bowing before artificially made Gods and seeking their help for solving their problems rather than believing in the concept of Tauheed (one God). They used to visit different shrines and offer prayers there for attaining their worldly desires. They conceive the saints just like gods and seek their help in every matter, which is prohibited by Islam. Such practices must be discouraged.
